Malaysian Nature Society

MNS has played a major role in the Mentoring Malaysia program. During the Mentor’s Camp, MNS’s Head of Education Department, I.S. Shanmugaraj, gave a detailed description on MNS to help mentors to have an appreciation of nature. He also taught us how we can play our part in educating the mentees the importance of conservation. MNS has also helped Mentoring Malaysia organize trips to the National Zoo, Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) and Hutan Rimba at Universiti Malaya for hands on experience on nature conservation & education.

The Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization established in 1940. Its mission is to promote an appreciation of nature and the natural beauty of Malaysia and the surrounding region. It focuses on protecting wild life habitats which includes national and state parks in Malaysia. MNS operates on four main units which are the Science and Conservation unit, the Environmental Education unit, the Publication unit and the Parks unit. Each of the units has its own responsibility respectively to help protect the habitats by; collecting data and conducting scientific research to conserve important habitats, educating school children through hands on experience and involvement in conservation project to create awareness, creating public awareness by publishing magazines, journals and bulletins, and managing and creating nature parks to increase public’s appreciation of the nature.
